This collection on http://www.archive.org houses the speeches of Peter Stathoulis, my late father, a prominent member of the Greek diaspora in South Africa. The speeches, numbering around one hundred, cover aspects of his life and his involvement in the Greek community in Alberton and South Africa from the 1960s to the late 2000s. They serve as a significant historical archive, offering insights into a complicated and dynamic era in South Africa through the perspective of immigrants and their descendants. The speeches address themes such as Greek identity, independence, religion, cultural preservation, immigration, community building, and South African politics during and after the Apartheid era. They document his dedication to establishing key institutions like the Alberton Hellenic Hall, the Alberton Greek Orthodox Church, and the SAHETI school, often delivered in multiple languages (Greek, English, and Afrikaans, and occasionally Sesotho), reflecting his role in bridging cultural divides. The collection includes speeches at community events, national day celebrations, business lectures, and symposia.
